The university goes way back to 12th century Europe. Then it was based on the idea academic freedom. Sadly, the university model of education has not been about academic freedom in a very long time. Now, it is about shutting your ideas down if it doesn’t coincide with academia’s ideas.
Over the years I have been continues tortured with the words like “finish school”, “finish your education”, “just get the degree”. First of all, I don’t think sane people work in the corporate world. If they do, they’re not exactly thrilled to be there. My second point and final point is people that push university on others like it’s the newest street drug, don’t have a clue about economics. It’s BAT S insane to buy something that increases in price almost exponentially year after year. When was the last time the price of university gone down? Why is university heavily subsidized. I would think something that is sustainable doesn’t need one red cent of subsidy. It’s called a bubble for a reason. Eventually, it’s gotta burst.
University doesn’t make people smarter. People are already smart beforehand. I know this because I meet people all the time that never set foot inside a university classroom and they are quite brilliant and more respectful than the average. Some may say university expands a person’s knowledge. Maybe it does, but that isn’t something that couldn’t be done by reading a book or asking someone else that has experience on the subject. Furthermore, technological advances have made it possible to obtain answers to just about all knowledge known with a few keystrokes.
I love learning. I like to share my knowledge to all who will listen and gain knowledge from all who want to collaborate. Scholars who have earned full scholarships by all means will benefit from university immediately. After graduation, they aren’t riddled with debt. It’s a win-win scenario. The dreadful road lies where students receive loans for thousands and the probability of earning the same or higher rate as the debt incurred is getting lower. Young people often do this through the intimidation of their parents. [Note to self: Don't do that to your children.] Where did the idea derive that knowledge must be within four walls and a sea of debt? That’s an economics lesson for another time. Ciao everybody!
